hey give me attention

so i've decided to stop procrastinating. here is my blog post about france. i just uploaded twenty pictures and realized they are all on facebook. everyone that reads this blog has scene my facebook album. so i'm not going to upload anymore because this would be ridiculously long. instead, i'm going to just give you a quick summary. you can talk to me if you want more details (i'm SUCH a good journaler. my posterity is so lucky)

yay paris!
we went last week, and it was fantastic. it was different than i remember it being but i think a lot of that has to do with it being my second time there and having more european cities to compare it to. i still loved it. and i love crepes. crepes are my life.
we will do a quick rundown.

day 1: chartres cathedral and the eiffel tower. we got a pretty detailed tour that explained the stained glass in chartres, which was amazing. old stained glass from the middle ages. they didn't have a henry viii to break all of their stained glass in france, so that's nice.

yay chartres at night

eiffel tower.

we ate crepes at the eiffel tower. holli was happier about it than she looks here. shortly after his photo, jordyn's face was covered in whipped cream.

day 2: versailles, notre dame, getting lost and bonding at the louvre

crooked picture of us outside the golden gates of versailles in all of its baroque glory.

lucky for us there was an exhibit of american artist, jeff (james?) koons artwork. extremely out of place. inappropriate. embarrassing. but apparently the french love him. they love porcelain statues of michael jackson that cover up bernini sculptures. go america.

hall of mirrors taken as a mirror shot from a giant aluminum balloon (another james (jeff?) koons addition)

notre dame. we did go in the day, but this shot is cooler than any of the ones i got during the day.

wooo notre dame. the first of the photos that distanced me and jordyn from the group...

then this one...
we met up with hailee at the bridge and took pictures. we lost our group aka the navigators. all three of us were good at being passive followers. so we got lost. we stood around for awhile just waiting for someone to tell us what to do before we finally busted out a map and found our way to the louvre to meet our friends. who left us already. oh well. we sat on the fountain outside the louvre and talked.

jordyn, me, and hailee just at the louvre not a care in the world

day 3: museums: rodin, musee d'orsay, and the louvre; sitting outside the eiffel tower; alison loses (and finds) her credit card

victory pumps outside the musee d'orsay. my favorite place ever. i spent a few hours with just me and sigur ros and my audio guide in the impressionist exhibit upstairs. it was magical

i re-fell in love with van gogh, he was my favorite of the day.

anna and i by the eiffel tower! passport to paris 08.

that night while the rest of our friends went up to the top of the eiffel tower, holli and i decided to drink a coke and sit on a bench and just look at it instead. so, we shared my i-pod talked about life and drank coke. then we decided to go to the louvre. oh, the louvre. most overwhelming, defeating museum of my life. not the best place to go at the end of the day. we saw the biggies, then tried to find what we were supposed to look at for humanities, but we couldn't. so we decided to go to the mouffetard market for dinner. when we finally got out of the louvre and to a metro stop i went to pull out my metro pass and saw that my credit card was gone. panic. lots of running around. lots of "parlez-vous anglais?". lots of pantomiming with holli's credit card. running between the orsay and louvre. luckily somebody had turned it in at the louvre. i'm so happy for honest people. renewed my faith in humanity.

day 4: holli and alison go to paris. arc de triomphe, champs elysees, l'orangerie, louvre, pompidou, mouffetard, and boat tour of the seine.

yeah woo! we were the first ones up it that morning.

this museum is a little like the celestial kingdom. two completely white oval rooms with all four walls covered in monet's waterlily murals. so incredible.

the mouffetard. it's by the pantheon. supposedly a famous market? all i know is that we got the most amazing savory crepes of my life here as well as fantastic chocolate. i spoke more french here than i did any other time.

day 5: taking it easy because 3482398472983 museums and 3234230840923 miles of walking killed us. st. chapelle and the left bank/latin quarter.

pretty st. chapelle stained glass

this bookstore was like a dream. it's a bookstore started by an american, george whitman. it has become home to and employed aspiring writers and artists since 1951.

love. i want to work/live here. i aspire.

then we met up with hailee and lauren . we were on a mission for good creme brulee. we found it. along with a couple other amazing fantastic delicious desserts.

that's what we had for dessert.

then we got on a train and came home. when we were pulling into london i got all sentimental because i am so sad to leave here in 3 weeks. after being away for a week and coming back london feels like home. because it is home. and i love it.

boo for leaving.

cheers

First, your self-aware cries for attention are cute.

Second, you had it right: it's Jeff Koons. There must be some fascination the French have with inappropriate and embarrassing artists: they made Jerry Lewis a knight (or so I've heard.)

I'm glad you didn't lose your credit card forever. Your posts make London/Paris/and the rest seem magical, like a deeply life-altering place. Or maybe that's just the mood I'm in, I dunno.
