used to be one of the rotten ones and i liked you for that

alison, how do you justify spending a dreamy summer night facebook stalking and watching ridiculous infomercials on youtube?
answer: take the laptop onto the deck!

it is quite nice, though i think i am attracting more mosquitos this way.

a couple of days ago at work we received tickets in the mail to a special premier of "the rocker." though the picture on the tickets convinced me i would have no interest in the event, it was free, and i'm into seeing movies i know i'll probably dislike just for possible entertainment/mocking value. mostly though, it was free. i got alex and amanda to come with me, and they met me in salt lake. when we finally made it all together to the theater, i led the group triumphantly to the theater, proud of my providing free entertainment. then this happened.
alex: it's not wednesday.
alison: i know alex. it's a special advanced screening (snooty voice pointing to the top of the ticket)
alex: yeah. it's not wednesday.
alison: wait what? (looking at the ticket which reads, wednesday july 16. it was tuesday july 15)
oh.

moments like this are becoming frighteningly frequent in my life lately.

soooooooooo... then our mission became to eat food. after a trip to the gateway, during which i purchased absolutely nothing thank you. alex a fifty dollar gift card to buca de bepo (?) in his possession. which was a re-gift that he was saving for that special someone summer fling. being the bad friend that i am, i convinced him it would be much better spent on us that night. (thank you again by the way alex.) and so: we went.

after an exciting tour through the kitchen (running this is where we cook the pizzas this is where we cook the food this is the unfortunate family that actually had to sit at the table we have in the kitchen for who knows why), we sat at a booth across from the bar. our waiter, still behind the bar, calls to us that he will be right with us. now i'm going to skip to the good part. after our we ordered our food he asked if we would like any salad. we politely declined, and i guffawed, "ha! vegetables!" all in jocular comraderie. well it was down hill from there. our server refused to speak to us the rest of the night. i'm not sure where we offended, but we did. we all were sure to thank him after everything he did, and we were not demanding. but then, this happened.

(disclaimer: i know it is rude and gross to leave your gum on the plate. i was not given a napkin however, and i did not really know what to do with it whilst i ate my bruchetta. so it was on my plate. i'm a bad person.)

disgruntled server: (picking up my plate, glancing at the blue gum i had left on it) uh did you want to keep your gum?
us: (laughter, in a "oh ho ho isn't she gross for leaving that there? what, was she saving it for later?" manner)
me: no, thank you.
d.s.: no, really. take it. it really messes up the dishwashers (shoving plate back in my face)
me: uh... okay sorry. (left holding gum in a bewildered fashion)

whaaaaaaaaaaat??? don't we scrape the plates off before sticking them in the dishwasher?

people seem to really like me.

we decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and composed a list of excuses:
-his girlfriend broke up with him that day and she always used to leave her gum on the plate, painful reminders.
-amanda suggested he didn't speak english very well (i think she got this from the fancy way he said all of the italian dish names) and as such, he took our laughter for rudeness and making fun of him (we weren't. in front of his face.)
-they recently had to get a new dishwasher due to gum
-i really made him mad laughing at salad like that

i related this story to the other secretaries at work today. one of them chided, "well at least he didn't hit you in the head with your plate!"

yes,
at least that.

Swallow it...that's the easiest solution and it's been scientifically proven that it does not stay in your stomach for 7 years.

hahahahahaha. this is a uber funny story. two questions:
1. do you think you'll return to the Buca di Beppo?

2. have you since seen the film you originally went to see?

ps- maybe the d.s. meant the human dishwashers. maybe gum really messes with their rhythm of scraping and what-not.
