tonight i did some toe-touches. happy byu-idaho day

so here i am again. it only took two tries to sign in tonight, if you were wondering.
i was unsuccessful (i am sure i spelled that wrong) in uploading a profile picture. i am unimpressed with blogger. xanga was much less complicated, though more more emo. c'est la vie.

life at college
ready, go:

classes
french - je n'aime pas le francais. it is getting easier but the first three weeks i was really floundering. i still panic when my teacher calls on me. i sit in the front row; i do it to myself. i think he knows i hate being called on, so he does it more to help me learn or grow or something. anyway. only one semester after this. i can make it through.

geology - i show up and sit in the back. i talk to leianne, look at eyecontactgeology boy (i have a goal to talk to him, haven't gotten around to it yet. we sure do make a heck of a lot of eye contact though... ) sometimes i study french, and sometimes i sleep. my teacher wears a blue tech vest every day. that fact alone makes it all the more worth it. if you have seen the show 'arrested development', imagine tibias but with a tech vest. that is my geology teacher.

educational psychology - i was iffy about this class at first because i judge education majors a lot. a lot of them are really bossy girls with really idealistic opinions, which, while they are cute ideas could never be implemented in a classroom. however, my teacher is a crazy old man. the girls i sit by are cool and so i am trying to be less judgemental. the class subject itself fascinates me, so i like it.

teachings of the living prophets - good heavens i love this class. everytime i come out of it with new resolve to be a better person. the biggest things that i've drawn from this class are charity and continually working on a change of heart. i love church. i really really really do. i always come out of this class wanting to talk to somebody about what i learned and about how much i love the gospel.

fundamentals of literary interpretation - finally the english major gets to take an english class. i absolutely devour everything we read and discuss in this class. i have had such a lack of it in my life the last year. most of the poems i have read before, but we're reading some short stories that i really love. i am giddy when it comes time to doing my homework for this class. i like the teacher okay except that anytime somebody makes a comment she says "how interesting." and she has a really nasal voice. but i do like her.

er...
geo lab - i look at rocks and name them. woo.

i think that's it. so classes are good.

work:
i love my job. i am a tutor at the reading center, and currently have three students. two of them are developmental writing students (freshmen who are in a pre-college writing course). i just help them edit and organize their papers and we work on grammar. i have one korean student who is trying to improve his conversational skills. so basically i get payed to just sit there and talk with him. i correct his grammar, pronounciation (i don't know how to spell that), use of idioms and slang, things like that. he'll ask me questions about american culture. it's interesting to kind of take a step back and examine our culture or strange things we say and then try to explain it. i really admire the international students here. they work incredibly hard.

er...
this is really formal and boring.
sorry.
i was going to go to bed early tonight. but then once again it's midnight. i am so busy these days. but i don't really feel like it. i don't feel like i have THAT much to do but i'll just keep doing stuff all day until finally it's midnight and well, shooot i'm tired. kind of annoying sometimes. having every minute of your day planned out.
they did start a lacrosse club up here though. i went to the first practice tonight. it rocked. i haven't actually played in so long. it's kind of haphazard right now but once it gets more organized i think it'll be really good.

i'm bored writing this. so i'm assuming you are bored reading this.
i'll try again tomorrow

p.s. it's spirit week here at byu-i. what we have spirit in (intramurals?), i'm not sure. but there were fireworks, and i fully support that. tomorrow there is a rally of some sort. i somehow got roped in to running in the relay whilst wearing all red for my ward. woopah

Al, I love to read this! I feel like I know you better...maybe corny to say, but true. Where have i been all your life?

nice use of haphazard.

i feel slightly voyeuristic reading this. especially because i'm going through your old ones. i'll stop now. not because i feel voyeuristic, but because i need to get back to work.
