yesterday was a traumatic day. i sold captain monet on ksl. my turtle i've had since i was 16. as many of you know i wasn't crazy attached to monet. OR SO I THOUGHT.
as i started to prepare monet for his new home i had to wake up holli because i started to feel sad and didn't want to do it alone. i asked holli to take a picture of me and monet. our first and last picture together.

after this picture monet used his legs to push himself out of my hands and he fell on the deck. i kind of laughed because he has always had suicidal tendencies (like the time he flung himself off the second story of our promenade apartment). then i picked him up and saw blood. i started freaking out. i ran to the bathroom and turned on the tub, trying to rinse him off. all of the sudden i was sobbing. holli stood at the bathroom door just staring at me.
me: "Ahhhhh what do i do what do i do i don't know what to do for a bleeding turtle!! i'm so sorry monet! i'm so sorry!!"
i was absolutely hysterical. i kept talking to him. apologizing for this and all the years of neglect he has suffered while under my care. honestly, sobbing.
i called ashley and told her what happened (at first she thought i said i dropped one my nephews and they were bleeding...nice). i just kept crying saying, "i don't know what to do! he's been through so much!" ashley said, "alison he hasn't been through so much. turtles in the wild don't have heating lamps." i said, "neither has he!!" (i'm a bad turtle owner).
anyway she eventually calmed me down. i put monet down and waited for him to come out of his shell. the bleeding stopped. he eventually came out and started swimming around. i was relieved. the nice hippy lady in a mini-van came and took him to his new home. i'm sure he'll be very happy.
this whole hysterical episode makes me wonder at my ability to cope with having children someday.

This story surprised me because I had no idea you had a turtle. I hope you treated yourself to something nice with captain monet's money.
Whew! Thank goodness for Holli and Ashley!
just don't drop your children, and you'll be fine. but now you have an idea of how i felt when i let abi go up the stairs by herself and she fell down...
I wasn't staring at you. I was staring at what I thought was a dead Monet. I was in shock! jeeez. . .
Oh Al.
Me again...if it makes you feel any better, remember my newt? Remember how he was anorexic? Not by choice, but by neglect. And he died. So, at least you didn't kill Captain Monet.
We're just not a pet family. But we keep trying to be. So, maybe you shouldn't get the free kitten...
a few weeks ago we decided to buy abi some goldfish. we bought six. within 36 hours, three were dead. one of them held out for five days. he was a trooper.
oh monet.
