you know, i didn't used to think that writing creatively was hard.
i used to be obsessed with poetry. i went to poetry slams almost every saturday at a coffee house in downtown salt lake for the last two years of high school.
i wrote a lot and had confidence in what i wrote. i was passionate about it.
now it's so intimidating to me.
it's been three years probably since i've written a poem?
i don't know if it was a case of big fish little pond syndrome. probably.
i met so many great writers at byu and decided that creative writing was not for me and i should no longer pursue it.
i remember how happy and alive i felt in the lake district walking through wordsworth's house on national poetry day and being like YES! POETRY YES! I KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO WITH MY LIFE! that was seriously an all-caps day.
how lame to get intimidated and give up! for some reason lately i've had the mentality that unless i'm an expert, i shouldn't try. it's really limiting me.
i think i'm going to write again. probably won't be posting here because blogs have become too public for bad poems.
this probably isn't blog-worthy or anything. it's just what's on my mind, and it's me saying i am remembering things i used to be passionate about and i'm going to start trying to be alison again instead of alison-receptionist-i-hate-my-job-and-i-eat-bad-food.
because whiney i-don't-know-what-to-do-with-myself-without-the-validation-of-school alison is starting to get real old.
AM I RIGHT?
and now an inspirational photograph:

That eagle is MY inspiration. haha. Don't stop writing EVER. You never showed me much of your creative writing, but I read one of your short stories, and I say you are a very talented writer with a lot of ideas and drive.
even if the outcome is not what you wish it was, the process of writing can be worth it. keep writing.
